Millennium

DS Clare Stanton's arrival in The Bill certainly isn't low-key. She arrives just in time to land a juicy case of terrorism, much to the envy of her colleagues, when someone begins poisoning products in a supermarket as a protest against genetic-engineering.

At the station she soon begins making friends and even manages to subtley make Geoff Daly and Don Beech cooperate with each other, as various male members of CID vie with each other when trying to impress the new DS, though things go pear-shaped for DC Tom Proctor when he is kidnapped by their local terrorist.

Linda persuades Frank to let her go and give her another chance to sort out her life. Later it turns out that she's not as innocent as she seems, so while Clare's left to carry on the the undercover work, Frank chases after Linda through an airport to stop her from escaping back to Spain.

Security

A friend of Dave Quinnan's from Barton Street is receiving threats against him and his family. Sgt Stanton and DC Tom Proctor investigate but their prime suspect is behind bars for an armed robbery. Haunted

Clare's assigned to an obbo, along with DCs Duncan Lennox and Tom Proctor, at an old pumping station which is rumoured to be haunted. After Tom nearly runs down a ghostly figure, which promptly disappears, the trio end up telling each other about their previous experiences with ghosts and other spooky cases.

Tom believes he met a ghost when he was a PC guarding a house with several bodies in it. He had a conversation with a girl who wanted to get a message to her mother. Days later the body of the girl was found buried in the basement.

Clare however is much less superstitious and to prove it she tells them about a phony psychic she once encountered, who called her "The maiden who augers death." Duncan's spookiest moment involves a dying criminal and how his girlfriend died at exactly the same time as him, after he left a rather scary message on her answering machine.

Clare's still not convinced, until she meets someone who changes her mind.

Angel

Frank Burnside's back to investigate a series of male rapes. Clare's methods clash with his though. While he's following his gut, Clare prefers to use her head and her training from a course a Hendon.

Clare begins to track their rapist the long-winded way, but works out who it is just in time to let Burnside know, who happens to be alone with the suspect in his cab!

Warm Bodies Part 1

Thomas Phelps, a student, is found near to a nightclub, Lulu's, which is owned by Vince Carter, the son of a retired gangster. Jack Meadows assigns Clare and Duncan to case.

Meanwhile John Boulton lands himself a failing-to-stop, which left a teenage girl, Gemma Eagleton, in a coma. John's problem is that his only witness is blind, and so couldn't see the perpetrator.

Clare and John end up working together, at first just discussing their cases with each other, until Clare establishes a link between Vince Carter and Gemma's father, James Eagleton. Just after Phelps regains conciousness, he's attacked, and minutes later so's Clare as she drives to the scene, on the way back from a secret meeting with Superintendent Hodges from CIB.

Warm Bodies Part 2

Clare's fine apart from some minor injuries after someone forced her off the road when driving to St Hughes Hospital. John drives her home after, but Clare rejects him when he makes a move. The next day at work she also insists that their two assigned cases aren't connected. Meanwhile Hodges is still putting pressure on her to keep a clear head around Boulton as she continues to investigate Don Beech.

After the launch of an appeal, more connections between the Phelps and Eagleton cases arise: Gemma's best friend knows exactly what happened to Phelps and Lee Carter is Gemma's boyfriend. Gemma witnessed Lee carry out the attack and later told her friend, Dawn, before threatening Lee to go to the police.

Love Or Money

Joh arrives at work in an unusually good mood as his and Clare's relationship appears to be going well. His colleagues guess that his private life's perked up a bit and muse over who the mystery lady is.

Clare's undercover work isn't producing results fast enough for her superior officers. She's under pressure to stay detached from her colleagues, including John, so she finishes her relationship with him, leaving him in his usual bad mood.

Meanwhile Don Beech's investigation into stolen credit cards is going nowhere, and he's reluctant to pursue the leads that uniform provide him with. Suspicious, Clare decides to follow him, but just when she's about to see Beech take a bribe, John arrives, causing her to miss Beech. However, she and John kiss and make up.

Room Service

John Boulton's offered a free night in The London Dock Hotel for two after he successfully catches some car thieves targetting the hotel's clients. He promises Clare that they won't be caught as they settle in for the night, but naturally things don't go according to plan when several guests are burgled. PCs Tony Stamp and Di Worrell turn up and Clare panics. The couple of detectives end up racing through the hotel trying to avoid their colleagues, but are spotted by a member of the hotel staff.

The next day DS Beech is assigned to, but is more intent on identifying John's mysterious woman rather than finding out who was the thief.

Supping With The Devil

After Don Beech discovers that his winnings from an illegal poker game turn out to be counterfeits, he tracks down a businessman, Howard Fallon, who asks him for a favour. A lorry of his, containing mobile phones and £50,000 of contraband cigarettes, was hijacked, and he wants Don to find them before Geoff Daly and Mickey Webb. Don agrees and throws the investigation off track with a false lead, but doesn't realise that Clare is closely watching him.

Touch And Go

Don Beech's mobile phone number is found in an address book belonging to a murdered lap dancer, Rachel Booker. Howard Fallon explains that she was laundering money for him, and that his right-hand man, Ray Bazzini, gave her the number in case anything went wrong. Beech then has to ask John Boulton and Clare to tear the page out of the address book.

Despite their personal problems, Clare and John begin to make progress on the case. They find a suspect, Warren Askew, a punter who's obsessed with Rachel and has a record for crimes against women. Fallon wants the case wrapped up quickly, but Clare's not convinced, so Beech plants an bracelet of Askew's at the crime scene. Askew later commits suicide.

Fake Fur

Clare believes that there was more to Rachel Booker than what the investigation has already turned up: for starters, her diary's filled with meaningless numbers, probably a code. Eventually, though, Clare cracks it: the numbers are account nos. and Rachel was involved in money-laundering.

As she and John continue to investigate, Don Beech tries to keep Howard Fallon informed, and invites the pair of them to dinner. John and Clare's evening ends in a night of passion, while Don slips off to scare off their snout, Lynette.

As agreed, Clare and John arrive to meet Lynette, who doesn't turn up, at a burger bar, but their meeting isn't completely uneventful as John proposes.

In Safe Hands

Now Lynette's disappeared, Clare's investigation seems to be going nowhere. The evidence against Don Beech is all circumstantial and Supt. Hodges from CIB is putting pressure on her to dig into John's private affairs.

Meanwhile Sam Harker is caught in the middle of investigations into sexual abuse allegations and the death of a young boy who overdosed on some impure heroin.

Find The Lady

John catches Clare going through a drawer containing his financial statements, and then later meets and old friend who used to work with Clare: but the Clare he knew was very ambitious and rather unpopular. No-one at her old nick knew about her sickmother; the rumourswere that she was selected for a special job, which causes John to worry that she's investigating him for CIB and also alerts Beech.

Meanwhile DS Gerrard and DI Tasker from Area Drugs, both on Howard Fallon's pay-roll, arrive to deal with the Booker/Fallon/Bazzini case, leaving Clare and John in charge of finding Lynette. Clare discovers that Beech set Warron Askew up. Later, Beech finds out that Ray Bazzini killed Rachel Booker, not Askew, and Lynette turns up outside John's flat where she stays the night (in a separate room from John!).

Lynette's moved to a safe house, where she tells Clare and John of Bazzini's involvement. Don tips off Fallon as to it's location. Lynette disappears when she's attacked, and lets only John know where she's staying. As a result of this, Fallon puts pressure on Beech to find Lynette. Beech tries to bribe John, for reacts badly. A fight ensues in which Don accidentally kills John and leaves his body at a building site.

Fifty-Fifty

John Boulton's body is found half buried in cement and all of Sun Hill goes into shock. AMIP are called in but Don is ready for them. He puts on a performance worthy of an Oscar in the interview and to Clare.

Clare goes to see her boss, Det Supt Hodges and completely breaks down when telling him about John. He does manage to convince her to hide her relationship with John from AMIP in the hope that they will get more evidence on Don.

Meanwhile, Don is busy planning to flee the country with the promised help of Howard Fallon. But Fallon is more interested in shopping him to AMIP. Don's plans are thwarted and when he realises that CIB are onto him as well he tries to cut a deal. But Clare has a little surprise for him.

The River

It is the day of John's funeral and Clare says her own private good bye to him before going to see how Don Beech has enjoyed his night in a cell. Beech pours out details about Fallon's drugs deal and two corrupt officers he knows of: Garrard and Tasker. Against Clare's wishes, Hodges allows Don a free rein to set up these officers and Fallon in a warehouses that evening.

Don is forced to wear an electronic tracking device and is escorted as far as possible by Clare who eventually drags him to John's funeral with her. Brownlow gives a touching reading and Don does a lot of sweet talking to John's mother. Clare takes Don back to CIB after Garrard leaves him a voicemail about ammunition but Don is a good bluffer. Hodges once again ignores Clare's judgement and allows Don to continue.

It is no surprise to anyone who knows him that the operation goes pear shaped when Don turns on all of them one by one and manages to give them the slip.

All Fall Down Part 1

CIB come to Sun Hill and suspend all of CID. The officers discover that Claire Stanton is CIB's mole. Ch. Supt. Brownlow is shocked at the news, and knows that the blame for the corruption will lie at his door. After pressure from Mannion, and other senior officers, he decides to leave Sun Hill. Jack Meadows is also panicking over the CIB enquiry and meets with his friend, Commander Campbell to pull in a favour. Campbell says to save his career, he must look for 'sacrificial lambs'.

Det. Supt. Hodges meanwhile, congratulates Claire for nailing Fallon and his associates. Claire explains that she will only be happy when she finds Don Beech. She keeps the surveillance on Maggie Lyons, to no avail. After checking with several informants, she discovers that Don has a share in a local club. Meeting with the other partner of the club, Dave Randall, he reluctantly agrees to help them catch Beech, who has already visited the club today. Beech sees Stanton at the club and manages to escape. He contacts Maggie and asks them to meet in a shopping centre. She agrees, and leaves her house, causing the surveillance team to follow her. They give chase and follow her to meeting Don in the shopping centre. Don sees Claire and her officers and her manages to evade them. Hiding on the roof, Claire gives up her hope of finding him.

All Fall Down Part 2

Claire interviews Maggie at the CIB station, and she claims that she didn't know that Don would be in the shopping centre. Don meanwhile, calls a lawyer named Spiller to represent Maggie. Spiller, for a substantial sum, agrees to represent her and keep Don's whereabouts secret. Don organises passports, etc. in preparation for him and Maggie to leave the country. Don heads to a sport centre where Maggie is keeping Fallon's money in her locker and is relieved to see the money still there.

At Sun Hill, Kerry Holmes is getting increasingly frustrated at being treated like a criminal by CIB. She requests a transfer to another station. Geoff Daly and Chris Deakin are also interviewed by CIB. CIB tell Mannion that they believe the corruption was limited just to Don Beech; no other officers were involved. They still recommend a 'clean-sweep' of the CID management.

After getting a ponytail fitted to change his image, Don meets with his friend Tommy. He wants to exchange the money for some diamonds so that they are less obtrusive when he travels. Claire, who is at Maggie's house, tries to persuade her to stop protecting Don. Maggie blanks her. Don gets the diamonds changed, for a hefty price and has his new passport ready. He contacts Maggie and arranges to meet her at Westminster Bridge.

Claire, who is still on the obbo outside Maggie's house, follows her when she heads for the sports centre. Losing her when she arrives there, Maggie goes on to meet Don.

At Sun Hill, Derek Conway is stunned to receive the list of CID officers leaving Sun Hill. Jack Meadows is surprisingly not one of them, thanks to his talk to Commander Campbell. Chris Deakin and Geoff Daly are. Drinking whisky in Chris's office, they drink sadly to their future.

At the hotel they are staying at, Don and Maggie look forward to their future together. Maggie decides though that she doesn't want to be part of this uncertain future, and leaves Don. Don heads alone to the airport to board a flight to Australia. Claire, unable to find him, goes to John Boulton's grave, promising him that she'll track Don down...
